New Nailpolish Goodness!

Hey Guys and Dolls!

So The other day I was  drooling over my favorite nail porn swatch site Scrangie  and I came upon this post showing the comparison of Nubar 2010 and Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure.

Click here to See Scangie’s post

In her post she mentions that the flakies in these polishes are similar to the flakies in Nfu Oh Laquers. Now, most of you don’t know this, but I’m obsessed with the Nfu-oh flakie laquers, but I can’t bring myself to spend that on one polish. Maybe for my b-day or something, but not just cause.

I decided if I couldn’t find the Sally Hansen version in a local drugstore, then I’d get the Nubar one (and probably a few others since I’ve never tried Nubar, but I’ve heard great things). The Sally Hansen polish is part of then the new-ish “Complete Salon Manicure” line they have with one of those awesome wide-brushes. So today I made it my mission to track down Hidden Treasure.  The first drugstore I hit up had the collection and the display but was sold out of HT. Sad Face.  Happily they had Sinful Colors Ocean green, which is another polish I’ve had my eye on.

Click Here for a great swatch of Green Ocean

I agree with the TheNailPhile that Green Ocean is CHUNKY MUNKY but it’s also really pretty.  I like it, but not “in love/get lost in” like some of my other polishes. My little sister just might be inheriting a new polish.

Back to the Hunt: Luckily I found Hidden Treasure at the second walgreens I visited where it was on sale, buy one get one 1/2 off, so I bought two bottles (when I really love a polish I try to buy a backup if it’s not too expensive. I learned my lesson with China Glaze “OMG”). I just couldn’t even wait until I got in the car, I painted one nail in the parking lot! I really love this polish!

OK, so here’s some swatch pictures. Keep in mind these were painted OVER other polish (Sephora By OPI  Teal We Meet Again- kind of a “meh” dark teal.) and in a hurry, so they look bad. Also these all have a layer of the magical topcoat known as Seche Vite over them.

THUMB: One coat Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure over L.A. Girl ROCK STAR “Groupie” (one of my all-time FAVES, this combo looks A LOT COOLER in person)

INDEX: Two coats of Hidden Treasure over Sephora by OPI “Teal We Meet Again”

MIDDLE: Two or three coats of Sinful Colors “Green Ocean” over “Teal We Meet Again”

RING: One coat of Hidden Treasure over Orly “Matte Vinyl” (my second fave combo)

PINKIE: Hidden Treasure over China Glaze “Grape Pop”

And another shot:

I’m pretty sure I need to do my nails alternating Groupie and Matte Vinyl with Hidden Treasure over the top. So far I think I prefer just one coat of  Hidden Treasure, it’s very dense with it’s flakie-ness, so the second coat just sort of over does it.

What are you current favorite polishes?

❤ Cora

That is the freaking coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time..

My old favorite nailpolishes used to be sally hansens nail prisms.. or prism effects (can’t remember the exact name) but they discontinued it (waaah!) Scherer Chameleon is similar, but less quality and flaky, boo!

Right now I’m in LOVE with Sally Hansens Hi Def (HD) and Xtreme Wear, lines.. they have SO many awesome colors!!!!

Cora! I ❤ polish myself. Especially this time of year! Yay summer! Can you suggest something for your toes? I generally go with a really deep red. Its classic for toes. Because I cant afford to go to the salon and have them french tipped or anything plus an all-over color is easier for me to do myself at home. I want more variety when it comes to toe nail polish, but I just dont enjoy the look of blues & greens on the feet cuz it looks almost like yucky nail issues imo. Thanks for any insight you might have! 🙂

I’d been trying to hunt down Hidden Treasure for what seemed like forever but finally I found it the other day. I bought a backup as well :] I love the way it looks with a matte topcoat!

The other polishes I’ve been loving are Chainmail Charm and Never So Evergreen by Diamond Cosmetics. They’re lovely!

    • vintageortacky says:

OH! I have a matte topcoat! Hm, I smell an experiment brewing…. thanks for the idea!

    • vintageortacky says:

OH MY BOB! ok, I just put a matte top coat over my index finger and I freaking love it. it gives it a whole new depth! and it makes the green come out more. good call!

Ooooh, Hidden Treasure reminds me of Gosh’s Rainbow. (http://www.stephscloset.com/blog/gallery/id/3703/gosh-rainbow-nail-polish-over-black/) I have this one, a friend of mine in the UK was sweet enough to send me a bottle and ZOMG, I adore it, although it is HELL to take off. She also sent me a bottle of Gosh Holographic (along with 4 other colors, *swoon*), which is just freaking AMAZING!

I don’t know if images will show up in this comment. If so, look- if not, sorry for the mess, but look, I did an animate gif of my thumb moving, to show the amazing holo of that polish!

But yea- I have the biggest thing for flakies. I’ve got to write a list of US brands that have ’em to carry with me, so I can nab ’em if I happen to see one while I’m out

    • thelaynie says:

Eek, no image. Lemme try this, and then I’ll just post the link.

DOOD! that holo one looks JUST LIKE China Glaze’s OMG! I NEED THAT NAO!! I love that gif image, it shows it perfect!

      • thelaynie says:

Actually, a friend of mine is doing a group buy for me. She’s picking up Gosh Rainbow and Holographic for a bunch of my US friends, and I’m passing them out. If you’re interested, I can hook you up! 😉

      • vintageortacky says:

uh, yeah I just might need to go in on that!

I love the new layout of your site!
    That polish looks amazing!
Have you tried the color changing mood polishes from Clair’s/Icing?

I’m loving Pure Ice Polishes because I change my nail color every other day and Pure Ice is good quality but cheap. Plus, they have a billion colors. If you use Seche Vite as a base and top coat the polish looks like Vinyl!
    Thanks

  7. Alexis says:

I love Sinful Colors in See you soon with Nail Junkie over it is one of my favorites. I am really upset I cant find that Treasure Island nail polish anywhere. I need to do some more exploring.

  8. Gaga Ivanov says:

wow. I like them, it’s so cool

  9. Krista says:

I saw this on Scrangie’s blog and literally went out THAT DAY to hunt it down. I have a difficult time paying more than $5 for a polish (I have my cosmetology license so I get salon polishes for less than that) but I learned my lesson about waiting to purchase a polish when I was hunting down OPI’s “Mad As A Hatter” and it was completely sold out. 😦 The last time I wore hidden tresure was over sally hansen’s “the real teal” from the extreme wear line. OMG gorgeous. Hidden treasure takes on a golden look. It looks like someone covered your nail in gold leaf. I agree with you Cora that one coat is enough. My current favorite polish (that i lusted after for a long time before I finally broke down and bought it) Borghese “stellare notte” It’s a dark charcoal grey and depending on how the light hits it, it will flash purple or teal shimmer.

  10. stephanie says:

ugh I am sooo jealous.. me and my mom went to every drug store around us looking for that polish yesterday…. Me and my bf had just broken up and my mom wanted to cheer me up… but alas no HT!! But I am glad you found it hun ❤

  11. Mandi says:

Officially on the hunt in Dallas for some SH hidden treasure! 🙂 Thanks for a great post.

  12. Michelle says:

Thought I’d just post this only because in one of your recent vids you said that you were going to try and not buy products from companies that test on animals. Sally Hansen does 😦 I myself do not buy anything that’s tested on animals either and recently found out about SH so I thought I’d pass it along.

    • vintageortacky says:

aw crap. Well now I’m conflicted. I’m definitely not going to throw these out, but I guess I for sure won’t buy any more of their polishes.

      • Michelle says:

I had bought one of their polishes too this past winter and sorry I did but at least you know now. It seems almost everything I read good reviews about is made by a company that does animal testing. I thought Aveeno and Neutrogena were ok but found out they did testing as well 😦

  13. Jordy says:

    Heya,

So I stumbled upon your Youtube channel and then your blog after looking for UV makeup… (You wouldn’t believe how difficult it is to track down! No one wants to sell it in my country 😦 )
Anyway, ZOMG I love the Sinful Colours Green Ocean… It looks just like the inside of a paua shell 🙂

  14. Amber says:

Gorgeous! The flecks on those colors you have on remind me of dinosaur eggs or like those Easter malt egg balls lol… all spotted. Very pretty!

  15. Lauri says:

i’ve been on a major lemming killing spree! (and i am loving all of them right now)
everything from 230, to rbl scrangie, every single ozotic pro multi-chrome i could get my hands on along with their red and purple holos – another sally hansen nail prism turquoise opal, and a couple other htf ones……and FINALLY., nfu-oh 51 and 61!

    *squeals like a little girl*

  16. Cleta Rose Reyes says:

Whoa! Pretty cool blog & advice. Self proclaimed & obsessive nail-polish junkie myself.

  17. minkio says:

hey Cora! i’m not sure about them shipping in the us, but take a look at this site ! it’s full of nfu-oh, and they don’t look that expensive 😛
    http://www.framenails.fr/boutique/nfu-oh-c-27.html

    kisses from italy!

  18. Hey cora,

I have just started watching your videos on youtube, which i absolutely love. but I recently saw this post about sally hansen- and as you’ve mentioned in your videos you are against animal testing. Thought I should send you this, when I was on their website, in FAQ

when asked if they test on animals their response was
“No, we do not test our finished products or ingredients on animals, nor do we commission any third party to do so. Coty Inc. Statement on Animal Testing: Coty Inc. is a leader in the global beauty industry and one of the world’s largest fragrance companies. We have developed a portfolio of notable brands and offer innovative products of outstanding quality for which we are committed to maintaining the highest possible standards of consumer safety.”

So it’s a bit unclear, whether they do or not. Thank you also for mentioning loral and covergirl tests on animals I was completely unaware of this, and because of this I will not be purchasing their products again.

Keep up the videos they are awesome.
    🙂
