Urban Decay OZ the Great & Powerful Palettes Review: Glinda

OZ PALETTES 026Glinda Palette

Hi Guys & Dolls! I’m so excited to share these amazing makeup palettes with you! I’ve talked about my love for the Wizard of Oz before so you can imagine my delight there there will be a new movie, “Oz the Great & Powerful” coming out on March 8. The film will be a prequel about how the characters of Oz came to be. I’m getting chills thinking about it! I’m a huge fan of all the major actors, and the movie looks like it will be visually stunning…but I’m getting of track- you came here for a review & swatch fest!

First off, let’s talk about the packaging- I LOVE IT! The Glinda palette looks like it came from a fairytale, so ethereal and light. Who wouldn’t be attracted to these?  I love how they are feel in the hand (sturdy) and I love that the eyeshadows inside are removable. That means that as you use the colors up, you can put other Urban Decay shadow singles in their place, so the palette is reusable. Speaking on function- Urban Decay added a great quality and size mirror on the inside- nothing about this looks or feels cheap.

The shadows themselves are knockouts- each one has superb color payoff and texture. In each palette there are 4 single, and 2 duo shadows, for a total of 8 colors. I think this is the first time Urban Decay has done duos in one pan, correct me if i’m wrong. There are a few standout shades that I hope Urban Decay will make permanent- Aura, Magic, Illusion and the silver from OZ.

Tornado Deep Shimmering Aubergine (deep purple). Crazy color payoff and shiny. Looks like Rockstar but I can’t be sure.

Aura A duo of Iridescent Peach and Violet. How. About. We Do. I love colors like this for highlighting the inner corner of eyes. These ahvea  great texture and color payoff, though the pink is sheerer than the violet.

Magic Perkiwinkle pink with a subtle gold glow in a satin texture. This is just fantastic, the prefect transitional color and texture.

Illusion satin pale peach. Great color payoff and texture. On a lazy day use this was a wash with Tornado in the crease- done & done!

OZ a duo of glittery silver and gold. The Silver is so divine! it looks like it’s been applied wet- that’s how intense it is. The gold is also good, but the glitter looks a bit too chunky in it for me.

South green-grey with mirco glitter. Great color payoff and texture. Am I sounding like a broken record?

Rockstar 24/7 Pencil- Deep aubergine. One of my all-time fave liners.

Glinda Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color. I call this pinkbeige.

This is my favorite palette of the two, and one I think I’m going to use like crazy. The colors in it are *wearable* enough for any occasion  but pack just enough fun for my tastes.  Look out for my tutorials with these palettes next week!

Urban Decay is having their Friends & Family sale right now! Use the Code FFSPRING13 to get 20% off at checkout!

*the term “wearable” kinda bugs me, but it works well here.

  3. Jo says:

This is the first review that has made me “want” this palette!

  4. TwirlyGirly says:

I could only afford to purchase one of these, and initially I had my heart set on Theodora. But I changed my mind at the last minute and bought Glinda instead. I’m so glad I did! I agree the shades in the Glinda palette are more wearable. I also think they’re more unique. Unfortunately, I’ve been battling conjunctivitist ever since the palette arrived, so alas all I’ve been able to do thus far is gaze longingly at all the pretty colors…..:(

OMG! the same thing happened to me with a Sugapill palette last year! I was really sick and it was slow torture!

  5. Noelle says:

I don’t even need anymore makeup, and yet during the Friends and Family sale I purchased both palettes because I love Wizard of Oz and anything related. My hubs and I saw Wicked in London for our anniversary and I’m reading the book and now the movie. Heaven! I tried to choose between the two but like you, so many people suggested getting both and I did. I cannot wait to get these 🙂 Now I just hope the movie doesn’t disappoint. Thanks for the swatches and review!

  6. Anelise says:

Does the gloss come with it?

    • Cora (vintageortacky) says:

Yep! You get 6 eyeshadow pans, 2 have 2 colors, so 8 eyeshadows, an eyeliner and a lip color. Not too shabby.

  7. Jill says:

I wish I could afford both palette’s but at first I wanted Theodora but after seeing your vid on Glinda and looking at the colors again,Iam going to buy that one! I’m a fair skinned redhead so I know both palette’s would work on me but I love the sparkles of the Glinda! Thanks so much and please keep the amazing vids coming,I always learn something from you!
